There are significant tradeoffs between societal development and wetlands conservation in the ecologically fragile Sahelian region. In other words, the pursuit of one goal impairs the other one. Jointly with Wetlands International, CARITAS and IWMI, hydrosolutions GmbH is working on the development and deployment of new water resources management approaches that enable furthering development objectives while valuing ecosystems and their services. This includes making extensive use of remotely sensed information jointly with data collected through local involvement for improving decision-making at all stakeholder levels.
