Flash floods are a frequent natural hazard and a pressing thread in mountainous regions of the People's Republic of China. In cooperation with China’s Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, hydrosolutions ltd has carried out a pilot study to simulate these events in ungauged Chinese mountain catchments with a hydrological model.
Today, we are happy to announce that this study has been published in Journal of Hydrology. The successful setting up and evaluation of such a model represents a milestone for the Chinese initiative for a flood prediction and early warning system. It is an important step towards an operational model for predicting and forecasting hydrological extremes, which in the future could save losses of life and property.
