From 28. October 2024 through 1. November, the second annual SAPPHIRE Central Asia Project was held in the Tashkent region in Uzbekistan. Forty specialists from all five Central Asian countries, as well as from Croatia and Switzerland, gathered to discuss the modernisation of operational hydrology and hydrological forecasting in Central Asia National Meteorological and Hydrological Organisations (Hydromets). hydrosolutions GmbH demonstrated the new fully digital assistant for operational hydrology and different state-of-the-art methods for discharge forecasting.
Thanks to this Swiss-supported regional project, Hydromets will be able to deliver state-of-the-art consensus-based discharge forecasts to stakeholders from agriculture, hydropower, and international organisations in the region for the first time. These forecasts will play a crucial role in helping the region plan and manage its water resources more effectively, both at the national and regional levels.
The project also reflects the spirit of the Swiss Regional Blue Peace Initiative, which promotes cooperation in water management among Central Asian nations to ensure stability and sustainable use of shared water resources.
